In light of discussions held in the Forum workshops, this session will explore possible vectors for moving systems of production and trade towards greater compatibility with the requirements of genuine sustainable development. Solutions will be sought in the response to several key questions:
- What types of regulation of the production and distribution chain are needed to allow all stakeholders to invest and grow? In particular, how can greater fairness be guaranteed in the distribution of added value so that all players receive a decent and fair income?
- How can we manage the impact of trade growth on the biosphere, especially in terms of energy use and pollution generated by production and transportation, as well as the risk of depleting natural resources?
What are the pre-conditions for establishing more in-depth and effective social dialogue, bringing together the social partners and non governmental organisations to address social issues at a global level?
