Why a Forum for a Responsible Globalisation?
Originating from initiatives led by the President of the Greater Lyon Urban Community, and supported by the President of the Rhône-Alpes Regional Council, this event aims to carve a new path to concrete achievements for an "alternative" globalisation of trade, solidarity and finance.
The first stage will focus on the organisation of a global forum in 2006. The Forum will then gather every two years, while continuing to act as a permanent platform for exchange and for capitalising on new ideas and practices.
What is the purpose of the event ?
The forum is a venue for debate among all international actors of the economy and society: businesses, trade unions, civil society, local government and international institutions. The aim of these exchanges is to produce new models for action to be adapted and implemented by regions, businesses, associations,…
The Forum will give momentum to cooperation efforts among actors and seeks to build a world-class centre of excellence in the field of socio-economic innovation by bringing together education / research and the practical experience of actors and their organisations..
Why Lyon ?
Humanism is a long-standing tradition in Lyon.
Lyon's humanism has forged a tradition of openness and a culture of conciliation which favours dialogue over insult and entente over deadlock. Lyon was home to the development of social utopian thought, the first cooperatives, notions of social justice inspired by Saint-Simon, social Catholicism, the first workers' upheavals …
All of these movements propelled the transition from tradition to modernism, faith to reason, thought to action, and helped assert a humanism dedicated to freedom and individual dignity - an inherent trait of Lyon's identity.
What makes this forum different from others ?
The Forum is one of the few international events open to all models of thought and action.
The method guarantees the success of the debate: working from reality, initiatives and real practices to produce concrete and conceptualised proposals.
The aim is to transform words into action. The moderators of debates will be recognized experts at "dialogue-building."
Every workshop will produce a report in real time, posted on the web site. The originality of the project lies in its local dimension. The Forum's partners have rallied to this unique concept which brings greater proximity and relevance to the issues at hand.
